Students at the Wellington Academy are today celebrating their GCSE results. The Academy, which was rated as “good” by Ofsted in March 2016, has comfortably achieved its second best set of results ever. 47% of students achieved 5A*-C including English and maths and matching last year’s best ever results in terms of the new official performance measure. Students made good progress across the full range of academic subjects, comfortably in line with national averages. Students singled out for having the highest attainment are: Hannah Tribbeck, Tomasz Czechowicz, Gab Fenner, Lauren Hood and Mohi Ahmed. Students who result demonstrated the most progress from primary school include Kyle Roberts, Kyla McClaren, Chandra Limbu, Sajan Uchai, Bethany Keith, Stephanie Savage, Jade Churchill, Elliot Carr-Taylor, Amber Skull, Laura Bushell and William Tweed.
Dr Mike Milner, Executive Principal, said “These results are very pleasing indeed. The school has improved significantly over the past three years, as recognised by Ofsted and these results are further evidence of that. The students receiving their results today deserve huge congratulations for their efforts which have allowed them to progress successfully to the next stage of their education – in many cases, they will be staying here where they will be able to benefit from our strong and inclusive 6th Form provision. We are also particularly pleased to have narrowed the attainment gap for students on Free School Meals for the fourth year in a row.”
