This exam is due to be reformed by Edexcel following recommendations by the Government. Students will study Unit 1 (People and Politics) and Unit 2 (Governing the UK). In Unit 1 students will consider the relative merits of democracy, the issues surrounding elections, the different political parties in the UK and the impact that Pressure Groups have on society. Students will sit both of these exams at the end of year 12 and they are worth 50% of the final A2 mark.
This exam is due to be reformed by Edexcel following recommendations by the Government. Students will study Unit 3 (Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Anarchism) which follows the ideological path (B). This will enable students to apply the learning to their surroundings and consider the impact that these ideologies have had on Britain. In Unit 4, students will study Nationalism, Feminism, Ecologism and Multiculturalism. Synoptic elements exists between both Unit 3 and 4 which means that knowledge from unit 3 needs to be applied to the final set of ideologies in unit 4. Both of these exams constitute 50% of the final mark for A2.
There is no coursework for this subject, nor is there any controlled assessment.
